We are the go-to resource on the Tri-County that: supports sustainable building efforts, advocates for green building codes and policies, curates trainings and events for the green workforce, supports the next generation of sustainability leaders, celebrates top-notch projects and individuals pushing the limits of sustainability, cultivates an expansive, vibrant, and active green building community, and prepares students and those in a career transition with the skills necessary to transition into a career path in building sustainability.

As a collective, the CCGBC board supports each other in creating healthier, environmentally conscious buildings and communities.  We enthusiastically welcome people of any race, gender, orientation, religion, ethnicity, physical ability, economic status, and political preference to apply. CCGBC Board Members should be based in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, or Ventura counties, as these are the three regions that our local USGBC Chapter covers.

Welcome to 2025!

This year, we’re excited to move from unification to implementation, focusing our efforts on making a real difference statewide. Our Green Schools program will focus on improving indoor air quality and education for kids across California, while our Green Homes program continues to enhance resident health and lower utility costs. Our CalBPS Building Performance Hub will help drive building performance policy while providing resources to support compliance and project development. We’re also launching new certificate programs covering topics like: waste management, nature-based solutions, electrification, water conservation, and more while beginning to leverage our California Training Network.

We’re just getting started—let’s show the world, beginning right here in California, that the balance between people, planet, and profit is not only possible, but essential. Share our vision, invite others to join, and help us create even greater impact together in 2025. Take a look at our upcoming events and trainings to see how you can get involved.

Here’s to an amazing year ahead!

Best Wishes,

The USGBC-CA Team

California has passed regulations to limit pollution from these source

Small Off-Road Engine - will require new lawn mowers, leaf blowers, generators, and other small equipment sold in California to be zero-emission
Transport Refrigeration Unit - phases out the oldest and dirtiest diesel-fueled TRUs
Commercial Harbor Craft - mandates zero-emission and cleaner engine upgrades for tugboats, ferries, and other vessels
Advanced Clean Car II - will rapidly scale down light-duty passenger car, pickup truck and SUV emissions
In-Use Off-Road Diesel-Fueled Fleets - reduces diesel and NOx emissions from vehicles like forklifts, bulldozers, cranes and excavators
In-Use Locomotive - reduces emissions and phases in zero-emission passenger and freight trains
Advanced Clean Fleet - phases in the use of zero-emission trucks and requires that only zero-emission trucks will be manufactured in California

In order for these rules to take effect, we need the EPA to approve them. Time is running out - we need the EPA to grant California's requests to enforce these rules.

Every three years California updates its building codes under Title 24. The Energy Code, Part 6, is no exception, but unique to the Energy Code, California by law must show cost effectiveness, meaning long-term operational savings will offset any upfront cost increase.  This process requires the California Energy Commission (CEC) to continually evaluate proposed energy saving measures before they become part of the new code. According to the CEC the proposed 2025 Standards are estimated to provide $4.8 billion in statewide energy cost savings.

The new 2025 Energy Code was formally adopted by the CEC in September 2024 and will take effect January 1, 2026. CLICK HERE to Learn More About The Updates 2025 ENERGY CODE UPDATES

Rebuild with resilience.

In case you missed it, last week we launched our California Wildfire Rebuilding Guide, created to help those affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. This in-depth resource is designed to guide homeowners, community leaders, and professionals through the rebuilding process, providing valuable tools and strategies to rebuild stronger, safer, and more resilient communities.

If you're on the long road to recovery or supporting someone who is, we want you to know you're not alone.

Developed in collaboration with Arup and an incredible group of volunteers, the guide emphasizes climate resilience, ensuring that future structures can withstand shifting weather patterns and natural disasters, safeguarding lives and property. It also focuses on equity, making sure all communities have access to the resources and support needed for an inclusive recovery.

By prioritizing long-term community well-being, we aim to foster healthier, safer, and more sustainable spaces for everyone.

Whether you’ve been directly impacted by the wildfires or are preparing for future challenges, this guide is here to support you every step of the way. Together, we can rebuild a safer, more resilient, and sustainable California for all.

Please help spread the word by sharing this essential resource with neighbors, friends, and family—anyone who could benefit from it during this difficult time.
