Join us during this presentation from 6:00pm-7:00pm on May 19th, 2021, where CCGBC board member Sasha Rabin of Quail Springs & Earthen Shelter, will be discussing natural building and its important role in a changing climate. Anyone can attend this free event!

AIA Members: This event is 1 LU/HSW Unit if you attend for the full hour. Register on Eventbrite and attend as an AIA Member & enter your member number.

Event Description: We will take a look at how we can bridge ancient and modern building practices to address our changing hazards in our built environment. We will look at the efforts and challenges of testing these materials in a paradigm that is not created to support open source, free building methods and materials. We will look at how these systems can be used to lower carbon footprint, as well as how they can be used in fire-prone areas. How do we drastically lower our carbon footprint of the buildings we built not so that they will pay off in 50 years, but so they don't cause more harm than good on day one?

Learning objectives:

  • How to use earthen materials for fire resilience
  • How to use open source, very low budget building materials and systems to allow more people to access affordable and safe housing.
  • How to bring back the 'barn raising' community-building ethic.
