Conservation Showcase; March 22nd 6-8 pm
The Showcase presentation, Five Ways Farmers are Protecting Our Soil and Water, will bring attention to how local agricultural producers are stepping up and caring for the land. There will be a fun, interactive panel discussion on conservation practices and the value of the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance (MAEAP) Program. Kent's MAEAP technician, Sam Braman, will recognize Kent County's MAEAP participants. The program will be followed by a special Regional Conservation Partnership Program announcement on how landowners in the Rogue River and Indian Mill Creek Watershed can take advantage of an additional $2.8 Million in available funding for conservation practices. You will not want to miss hearing more about this exciting partnership between Natural Resource Conservation Service and the Grand Valley Metro Council which will increase the availability of conservation financial assistance to improve wildlife habitat and water quality on the lower Grand River.
Who Should Attend: All are welcome to attend this special event. The general public should attend to learn more about how conservation practices can protect our water quality and create wildlife habitat. Agricultural producers and landowners who want to learn more about MAEAP should attend. Thos that live in the Rogue and Indian Mill Creek Watersheds should plan to attend to learn about how they can take advantage of special funding available to help them protect their resources and save thousands.

The showcase will also help landowners learn more about the many resources available to Kent Conservation District residents. These services include the NRCS administered Farm Bill that offers easement programs to eligible landowners to conserve working agricultural lands, wetlands, grasslands and forestlands, the Forestry Assistance Program, the Conservation Technical Assistance Initiative, the Michigan's Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program and the invasive species strike team. By the end of the event you will be able to better describe what a conservation district is. Many are just not sure what a Conservation District does and seem to confuse Kent Conservation District with Michigan State University extension and the Department of Natural Resources. District. Staff want to remedy that and plan to be on hand to answer questions and educate our residents on what services we do provide.
