Title: Landscape Design that Works With Nature

Description: The built landscape can often be a human attempt to control nature. We will look at ways to design our built landscape in a way that takes advantage of natural processes so that we can create a built spaces that work in harmony with nature. This approach to design allows humans to become better stewards of our natural environment and allows for our communities to become more resilient in the face of climate change.

Learning Objectives:

  • Climate appropriate plants: California Native Plants verses Mediterranean adaptive plants and the trouble with invasive plant species
  • Soil Care: Why is it important and what we as builders and designers do about it
  • Water management: Designing each project as a mini watershed
  • Going beyond plants: A place for wildlife in the landscape
