Decarbonize California Now by USGBC

  • 27 May 2021

  • Online

Join USGBC for a conversation with California leaders in carbon mitigation in the building sector.

This event will explore how decarbonization is at the center of California’s ambitious climate goals and look to what is changing for building professionals.

California currently has the most stringent energy efficiency standards in the country, and its policy framework creates opportunities to support meeting Paris Agreement goals to limit warming to 1.5°C -2.0°C. All state-owned buildings must meet Net Zero Energy by 2025, and new commercial buildings by 2030. So far, 41 California cities have adopted building codes to reduce their reliance on gas and advance decarbonization goals. The trend is growing.

The session will begin with opening addresses from Donnel Baird, Founder of BlocPower. The first half of the program will examine the building sector's leadership role in the changing landscape of California's carbon footprint goals. The second half of the program will explore building electrification, decarbonizing building materials, greening the grid, and other solutions for meeting this challenge. We will close out the session with reflections on the next steps from David Hochschild, Chair of the California Energy Commission. Visit the event registration page for a full list of speakers and the event agenda.
