Central Coast Zero Net Energy Series

A 4-session series of educational presentations covering how to design for Zero Net Energy including new technologies, "Top 10" strategies, practical approaches, and more.

Cost for the entire series is: 
$40.00 for HBA, AIA, ICC, and USGBC members.

$60.00 for non-members.

 $15.00 for students.

Each session worth 4 AIA CEUs -- 16 in total!

Meet the Event Faculty


Scott Nyborg, LEED AP, BPI, Allen Construction

Scott’s passion for sustainability has led him to the ongoing study of building science and the application of science to the creation of low-energy, low-water, comfortable, and healthy homes. Before joining Allen Construction, he founded and managed a home performance contracting company. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, is a LEED AP, and holds multiple BPI credentials.


Jennifer Rennick, AIA, Certified Energy Analyst, In Balance Green Consulting

Jennifer specializes in energy use optimization, including passive solar design, zero net energy, and energy modeling and analysis. Through her work, she consistently helps her clients achieve high energy efficiency, increased occupant comfort, and lower utility costs. A graduate of Cal Poly, Jennifer passionately shares her knowledge and expertise through presentations, workshops, and award-winning articles.


Judy Rachel, BPI, Eco Consulting

Judy specializes in home energy audits and performing load calculations and HVAC system design for single family residential homes. Judy writes and teaches building science curricula for community colleges, workforce training programs and technical training providers. She is the contractor field mentor for the Southern California Home Upgrade Program.

 

John Ewan, CA licensed Contractor, CEA, SME, President Pacific Energy Company

John is a Certified Energy Analyst with 37 years of experience completing ZNE load analysis, design, equipment specification and construction management for storage based photovoltaic systems. Grid independent electric systems range from lighting phone booths to powering hunting lodges, wineries, estate properties and public schools. Projects of note include the ZNE Palm Theater and Pacific Valley School. 


 Andy Pease, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, In Balance Green Consulting

Andy is an Architect and LEED Accredited Professional BD+C and has helped to LEED certify dozens of projects throughout California. A graduate of MIT, Andy focuses on integrated green building strategies, including water conservation, daylight, energy efficiency and healthy interiors. She also serves as Council Member for the City of San Luis Obispo.



Dave Houghton, ME, Avila Partners

Dave leads Avila Partners, a consulting firm that specializes in research and engineering for the buildings sector to support the path to a cleaner energy future. Drawing on 25 years of experience, Dave’s current work includes emerging technology development and validation, lab and field testing of energy-related innovations, and efforts to make existing buildings run better through auditing and data analytics. 



Devon Hartman, CHERP

Devon has 35 years of experience in architecture, construction, and strategic business development on the field of Energy Efficiency. Newly retired from his decades-long role as Co-Founder and President of HartmanBaldwin Design/Build, Inc., he has Founded CHERP to form collaborative partnerships with community organizations, contractors and cities to promote sustainable building practices and the reduction of fossil fuel use in buildings.



Stacey White, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Mode Associates

Stacey, an architect and LEED AP BD+C, is Principal and owner of mode ASSOCIATES, specializing in high performance educational environments. Her enthusiasm for changing the world through thoughtful design, careful policy development and sound fiscal methods can be contagious. She is a frequent presenter and on faculty at Cal Poly CAED.





Paul Dunn, HERS Rater, BPI Analyst, Central Coast Energy Compliance

Paul, with his wife Michelle, have been providing cheerful, constructive energy consulting to architects, home owners and builders since 1984. They specialize in providing cost-effective, accurate energy modeling for residences and commercial projects, home energy auditing/rating, solar siting, and HVAC equipment selection, duct design and load calculations (ACCA Manual J, D & S).



 Brett Bishop, Residential Energy Programs Coordinator, emPower Central Coast, County of SLO

Brett has experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Designer, HVAC technician, and General Contractor. He is part of the Tri-County team working to establish a Regional Energy Network (REN) to serve the people of the Central Coast and manages residential energy programs for the County of San Luis Obispo.



Heidi Harmon, Mayor, City of San Luis Obispo

Elected in November 2016, and an activist for 30 years prior, Heidi is committed to enhancing community resilience through energy efficiency and sustainability in our changing climate. Along with fellow Councilmembers, she is leading the charge for a Net Zero Carbon Community.
