September Lunchtime Learning - Pressing Pause on the Solar Coaster September 20th, 12 - 1pm

This course will provide an overview of current solar and battery technology and demystify outdated notions of residential solar. We will discuss some of the key design considerations when designing home solar systems. The course will also define Net Energy Metering (NEM) in California and discuss recent changes to NEM policy. The renewable energy industry has created a lot of buzz over the last few years so we will discuss some of the currently trending topics in solar energy.

1) Upon completion of this course, attendees will have a broad understanding of key factors used in rating solar components including module efficiency, light induced degradation (LID), and microinverters vs. standard inverters.
2) Attendees will gain a broad understanding of battery technology for residential applications, including battery types and battery safety considerations, and the differences between back-up systems and off-grid systems.
3) Design considerations will be discussed so that attendees can consider such factors when planning projects that include solar.
4) Attendees will gain a general knowledge of Net Energy Metering through local utility providers.
